Looking Forward to a Perilous Fall: Joining the R.I.P. Challenge

The general lameness here at Col Reads over the past two weeks can only mean one thing – the semester has begun! But now that my darling daughters are also back-to-school (that takes an additional week here), I expect to have things back to normal starting next week! Or at least as normal as they get around these parts.

So autumn has arrived, and with it the RIP (that's Readers Imbibing Peril) VI Challenge, for readers of mysteries, suspense, thrillers, dark fantasy, gothic fiction, horror, or supernatural titles. Isn't the button fantastic?

I’m joining at the Peril the Second Level, but I hope to read more than two books – I just don’t want to overcommit.

What? Did I hear laughter? Me? Overcommit?

Hahahahahaha!

  1. I overcommit to challenges all the time! That's been my entire year. I'm excited about this one, though, because I do love to read all things scary and creepy, so I did join Peril the First *shudders* I hope I don't bail on this one! I must complete it! :)

  2. The beginning of the school year does bring all kinds of challenges, doesn't it. I hope everyone has a great year and you have fun with the challenge!

  3. I'm looking forward to sharing some great autumnal reads with you and the others, Col. I've already read The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (for the first time! Talk about lame!), and I started Stephen King's Under The Dome last night. But, it's a rare book of his that I can actually finish. He scares me to death.

  5. Two books is manageable, Col. Get yourself some thrilling reads and you'll finish them in two days - who cares about the ironing or the student papers? :-)

  6. I'm already failing so many challenges...but that isn't stopping me from considering this one! EEEK! Thank you (?) for sharing it! ;)

  7. Don´t know about you, but I overcommitted in January. The only success is my own determination to cull my TBR so even though this challenge sounds sooo tempting, I´ll close my eyes and rush off.

  8. Hope you have fun with this challenge. I seem to have gone overboard the other way this year, and have entered no challenges because of the ones I didn't finish last year, lol.

  11. I've signed up for Peril the First, at least four books. I think I can manage it in two months. I'm trying to read books from my own shelves but that might not happen.

  13. I joined at Peril the Second too. One scary book for each month. I started The Lantern this weekend.

  14. @Natalie -- my strategy for this year was to commit to low levels of challenges, to have a fighting chance at finishing! The jury is still out!

@Kathy -- I think by the end of August everyone is craving their routine again.

@Bellezza -- I haven't read anything by Stephen King since The Stand -- scared the bejeebers out of me!

  15. @Kailana -- I'm starting with The Victorian Chaise Longue. I've been looking forward to it since Bellezza's review last year!

    @leeswammes -- I like the way you think :)

@Audra -- You're going to want to read a scary book or two once the leaves turn, right? C'mon, join us!

  16. @Dorte -- I definitely did the same thing, but I was planning on this one anyway! I should follow your good example, but probably won't!

@TheBookGirl -- There's always time to reconsider this one!

@Chris -- Yeah, this one is just too fun to miss!

@Diane -- I've never heard of Duma Key, but Stephen King is usually too scary for me, I admit it!

  17. @Karen -- I have been filing away ideas this year, but I'm still trying to decide if there's a theme in it!

@Kristen -- I love Halloween, which is what makes this one a favorite :)

@Leslie -- I've been thinking about The Lantern. I hope you enjoy it!
