Normally, I am something of brown thumb when it comes to houseplants. Somehow, the combination of low light and dry heat in my home doesn't favor most flora. Which is why I've been so surprised the past couple of years when I am greeted by this tropical explosion in my living room. My children have named them “snorchids,” because they rebloom after the first snow. The blooms generally last until the crocuses are pushing up, cheering up the wintery windowsill.
To participate in the Saturday Snapshot meme, bloggers are asked to post a photo that they (or a friend or family member) have taken, then leave a direct link to your post on the Saturday Snapshot site. Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. All she asks is that you don't post random photos that you find online.

This is a gorgeous plant!
ReplyDeleteWow, Col, you've spiffed the place up! Nice!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely surprise to be greeted with! When I asked my husband the best kind of plant for my desk at school, he said, 'Silk.' If you have a brown thumb, mine is black. In mourning for all plants which once lived. Under someone else's care.
ReplyDeleteJust sublime!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm trying again...Blogger said I had "conflicting edits," so hopefully, the two comments won't show up.
ReplyDeleteI love the "snorchids." My "brown thumb" suggests that I should try something like this, too. LOL
Here's MY SATURDAY SNAPSHOT
Very pretty. I like having something that flowers in the winter. Last year I got a begonia to pop a few blooms in the garden window but most of my plants just stay green.
ReplyDeleteWow, beautiful. And they're so white! I have an orchid that blooms regularly for me too - it seems to be the only happy plant in my house.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful orchids! We have these and various other colors in our house as well and I am always amazed by them
ReplyDeleteVery pretty!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful "snorchids"! Thanks for stopping by mine.
ReplyDeleteThey're beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a compassionate plant to times its blooms for when they would bring the fun cheer. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flower. It looks so delicate, but I'm sure it's very hardy to come up every year. Have a great day!

What a beautiful sight on this gray of gray day.
ReplyDeleteOrchids are wonderful when they are in bloom, so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI also don't have much success with plants or other greenery, though your flowers look like they are happily blooming. Great picture!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the Vintage Mystery Challenge! Will look forward to any reviews you decide to do.
ReplyDeleteThose are gorgeous blooms! I have tried orchids in the past but haven't had much success. I do, however, have a violet on my windowsill which has survived despite my intermittent care!
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone. I have two of these plants blooming right now. Which goes to show that orchids thrive in an atmosphere of benign neglect. They actually LIKE to be completely dry in between waterings, which is perfect for an absent-minded professor like me :)
ReplyDeleteBrown thumb seems to have struck a chord -- I think I will take Bellezza's dear husband's advice, and find silk flowers to work in the rest of the house!
They're gorgeous! I wish I could get flowers to bloom in my house! It's probably good that I can't though since one of my cats will eat any plant that comes into the house, and I wouldn't want him to eat anything poisonous.
ReplyDeleteI am incredibly impressed! I always wish I could grow orchids but after they bloom once I am just left with a brown stick forever so no go. Yours however are gorgeous!
